Welcome to TM Martial Arts,

Around the World more psychologists, doctors, counselors and teachers recommend Martial Arts training to children and adults who want to achieve and maintain optimum physical and mental health. The benefits of Martial Arts training have been known for centuries but only recently, with the stressful demands of modern society (often resulting in unhealthy lifestyles) have the positive and beneficial effects of Martial Arts training been “rediscovered” and widely accepted. TM Martial Arts teaches  Tae Kwon Do and Combat Hap Ki Do,  Korean arts with roots reaching back over two thousand years.

One of the most important values of Martial Arts training is its ability to make one aware of his or her natural strengths, therefore increasing self-confidence while attaining humility. In addition to the practical knowledge of self-defense there are many positive physical and mental benefits as well.

Regardless of age, gender or current level of physical activity, Martial Arts training can be a wonderful growth experience for everyone.

THE MEANING OF TAE KWON DO

“Tae” means to jump, kick or smash with the foot.

“Kwon” Denotes a fist – chiefly to strike with the hand or fist.

“Do,” means the way, or method.

Taken collectively, “Tae Kwon Do” indicates the technique of unarmed combat for self-defense, involving the skilled application of kicks, blocks, dodges and interceptions with the hands, arms and feet. Its philosophical method is to guide the formation of civil and moral character in a person.

THE MEANING OF HAP KI DO

“Hap” means Harmony, the coordination of mind and body.

“Ki” is the inner power, energy, and life force.

“Do” is the way or method.

The three universal theories of Hap Ki Do are:

-         The Water Principle which teaches you to penetrate the defenses of an attacker by “flowing” in, over, around, and under.

-         The Circular Motion Principle which teaches you how to gain and impart momentum by moving in a circular manner. By redirecting the attack in a circular direction the student controls the balance and kinetic energy of the attacker.

-         The Harmony (or Nonresistance) Principle teaches you to remain relaxed, flexible and not to meet force with force.

The style of Hap Ki Do that TM Martial Arts teaches is Combat Hap Ki Do, a modern eclectic style with a scientific approach to self-defense. Combat Hap Ki Do is a realistic and effective discipline of personal protection.
