The Power of Setting Goals!

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” -Zig Ziglar

Goal-setting is a major component to training at TM Martial Arts. Setting both short term and long term goals are key ingredients to developing a strong, confident person. Along the way, there are successes, failures and lessons learned that bring students closer to success. What a person becomes along the way is more valuable than the goal they have achieved.

board breakOur “Breaking Through Barriers” Board Breaking Workshop was all about setting goals, and then finding the confidence to follow through to completion! Special guest, Grandmaster Jeff Smith, taught students the pride people feel when they push through obstacles in order to accomplish something great.

“Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big success.” -David Joseph Schwartz

Grandmaster Smith also explained the difference between a short term goal and a long term goal. They must be tackled differently. A long term goal must have an action plan. And it takes time and perseverance to reach that type of success. But the rewards are lifelong, and this is a lesson our students will take with them throughout the rest of their lives.

For example, when one of our students set the goal to train to black belt and beyond, they are setting a very special long term goal. It will require commitment, effort, and hard work. But the benefits are incredible! Students who stick to their commitment and train all the way through will develop life skills that will serve them well in school, college, family life, and career! Discipline, responsibility, integrity, confidence, speaking skills, learning how to manage their time and follow an action plan to achieve both physical and mental success….these are all benefits that produce successful leaders in the community! And thousands of students who have trained at TM Martial Arts have proven this to be true. Read on to find out what great things are happening at TM Martial Arts…

Founded by Grandmaster John Pellegrini, Combat Hapkido is an extremely realistic and versatile discipline of self-protection that includes an extensive variety of strikes, kicks, joint locks, pressure points, ground survival and disarming techniques. The result is a practical, comprehensive Self Defense system that is enjoyable to learn and truly effective in realistic situations. It is well suited for men and women of all ages and sizes because physical strength and athletic abilities are not essential.

Each year, TM Martial Arts hosts the Combat Hapkido “National Training Conference.” Students and martial artists from across the nation (and beyond) travel to Joliet for this incredible weekend experience.

Grandmaster John Pellegrini teaches various advanced techniques throughout the weekend, such as ground survival, weapons disarming, close quarter combat, etc. He is joined by his wife, Master Trina Pellegrini, for a women’s only self-defense workshop.
